Really happy with this commission project from Dede on aviolin I had for quite some time. Before he started, he asked me what this violin represented to me: a body of Music and Art.
There are a lot of similarities between the violin or cello and the female body: the curves, lines and softness. Some people mistake the violin to be fragile while it's actually very strong, sturdy and can produce a lot of power and sound. With a single violin you can easily fill the Concert Gebouw completely. This particular violin shows the passing of time with its many dents, tears and scratches.
Just like scars they are a kind of memory. This violin had a beautiful past but cannot be played in this condition anymore. I wanted it to have a new purpose, to be adorned with art and to be a symbol of things I love: a body of music and art.
